In November, 2025, the No More Loopholes Bill (C-233) was first presented in Parliament, aiming to close the loopholes in Canada’s arms export laws that are allowing Canadian-made weapons to be shipped to Israel, through the US, circumventing controls designed to prevent the use of Canadian-produced arms in human-rights violations.

There was some mainstream media coverage of the shortcomings of Canada’s export controls that the bill was addressing:

The bill came was debated on March 9, 2026. And on March 11, it was voted down with only 22 in favour out of 317 votes. 15 Liberal MPs (including our own Patrick Weiler) broke ranks with their party and voted for the bill.
