Authorized by one of the North Shore’s very own MPs, Patrick Weiler, this petition calls for the termination of the Canada Israel Free Trade Agreement, and for the imposition of stronger sanctions against illegal settlements.
This petition is grounded in Canada’s obligations to well-established international conventions and treaties, and by Canada’s recognition of the State of Palestine. It is but one way that Canada can go beyond the ban on goods from Israeli settlements that were announced on September 8.
We will be watching this one closely, but for now, it needs signatures from the Canadian public. After the signatures are tallied on December 9th, it will be presented to the House of Parliament for consideration and debate.
