Over the last 6 months, thousands of people took action to push our government to close the loophole that allows Canadian weapons to fuel Israel’s genocide. But instead of siding with the vast majority of people who want to see an end to Canada’s complicity in the genocide in Gaza, the Carney government chose once again to side with arms manufacturers.

We must continue to escalate pressure on the federal government to impose a full two-way arms embargo on Israel. But we also cannot afford to wait for this government to do the right thing. That’s why we are taking an arms embargo into our own hands.

And we’re starting with Elbit Systems.

About Elbit Systems

Elbit Systems is Israel’s largest weapons supplier, producing 85% of the IDFs land-based equipemnt as well as 85% of the drones used by the Israeli Air Force. For instance, an Elbit Hermes 450 drone was used in the 2024 World Central Kitchen aid convoy attack which killed seven aid workers in multiple missile strikes against three marked aid vehicles.

Elbit markets their products to international buyers as having been “battle tested” due to their use in Gaza and the West Bank.

Many investors, including ScotiaBank, HSBC, and the Government Pension Fund of Norway have divested their holdings of Elbit Systems shares, due to ethical concerns.

North Shore For Palestine has supported the Arms Embargo Now campaign in its entirety, including the demand that the loopholes in Canada’s export laws were closed, and is now supporting this newest phase of the campaign.

Pressuring Elbit Suppliers

Elbit has ties with dozens of companies across Canada. Many of these companies continue to send shipments of Canadian components to Elbit factories in Israel. The campaign calls on supporters to pressure such companies to stop all business with Elbit Systems.

For NS4P, the only local supplier to Elbit Systems is Norsat International Inc in Richmond, BC. They supply satellite communication components to Elbit Systems.

We will be supporting other local groups in pressuring Norsat to reconsider their deals with Elbit systems. We will monitor the actions taken and will inform our members of opportunities to participate.

We encourage you to call Anita Anand, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and your riding’s MP, to voice your position on the matter.

Here are some sample bullet points you can use to build your own script:

  • I am calling as your constituent to demand that the federal government immediately sanction Elbit Systems, as a critical component of a full arms embargo on Israel.
  • I have watched Israel’s atrocities unfold across Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon and Iran for more than 1000 days. These attacks have all relied on weapons built by Elbit Systems, Israel’s largest arms manufacturer.
  • Shockingly, many Canadian companies are linked to Elbit Systems, including by providing crucial components and parts needed to build their deadly weapons and surveillance systems.
  • Canada cannot claim to uphold human rights while allowing Canadian companies to support the supply chains of Israel’s largest arms supplier.
  • I urge you to immediately impose sanctions against Elbit Systems.
